Personally I rarely update my blog, mostly because I am so busy, but when I originally started it - I did it for a way to express myself and build some connections in the business, which it did help. Obviously if you find a great program/tool and they have an affiliate program it's a win win and helps pay for hosting, domains and other tools you pay for.
