I’m sure most of you have experienced the super inflation of click costs on Facebook. Seems like some of you looking for some extra income in this stupid economic depression have been jumping on Facebook with click prices that make my head hurt. The problem can be solved by A) everyone decreasing their click prices at once, B) Killing every other marketer on Facebook, C) Experimenting with demographics and keywords on Facebook’s advertising platform. While choice B seems like my cup of tea, I’m not so sure how much the Po-po would like it. Let’s take the path of C.

Demographics

Let’s take a look at demographics. Demographics are shit like where you are sending your ads geographically, how old the users are, what sex they are, and all that fun stuff. Narrow that shit way the fuck down. If you can’t decrease your CPC, you can atleast find out who is making you money and who is losing you money by taking tiny sample groups. You wanna know how tiny? Try 25 year old males in Seattle, WA working at Microsoft.

That’s a tiny sample group, but its contains a lot of important information. If you are rollin in positive ROI, you can target other similar groups (computer nerds, video game players, and even business execs to further expand upon your demographic experimentation). Is it a lot of work to do all this? Don’t be lazy! It’s easy to set up a huge test campaign like this. I’m willing to take an extra 2 hours out of my day to set up a big uber targetted campaign if it means its going to pay the bill on my new condo next month.

Keywords

This is a no-brainer. Back in the good days when I could easily roll 100 – 200% ROI with a 2 minute campaign, keywords weren’t even playing a part. Today, it’s essential for you to put some keywords in almost campaigns. Keywords mean more targeted and more money for you when you get it to convert.

Just like Google Adwords, break up your campaigns with individual ads targeting different demographics, and then add keywords to them, breaking up different types of keywords. For example, I’ll take a online college offer to demographics, say 18 – 20 year old males, and 21 – 25 year old males and put in more ads, one targeting keywords like entreprenuer and one targeting keywords like students. So I’ve got 4 ads:

18 – 20 Males

1 ad targeting entrepreneur

1 ad targeting student

20 – 25 Males

1 ad targeting entrepreneur

1 ad targeting student

Of course those are stupid examples because I don’t want to give you my money makers. Yeah, I’m a greedy mo’fo.

Pics and the rest…

In the end, it’s going to come down to CTR % that will bring down click prices. If you want the elusive 1 – 2 cent clicks, you’ll need a 2 – 4% CTR. It’s not impossible, but you’ll need a shit load of testing unless you are extremely lucky. The best way to get this done is through your ad copy and images after all the above is done. Once I get all my little ad groups done, I might spend another hour tweaking each ones ad copy and images. I can see which ones are rocking my socks off with a high CTR and start branching further off of those indivdual high performing ads.

Yeah, so like… start rocking those ads at Ads4Dough for me, alright? I made a lot of cash with them this week and ended up putting money down on a condo I’ll move into sometime next month. It’s across the street from about 20 different high-class clubs, right next to the grocery store, got a pool, sauna, gym, two levels and balconies just for my ass, and a 2MB Internet connection. Better than this 256kb crap at my current apartment, atleast.

I know I am a freelance writer, but here is some design work I did for my Introduction to Media Production course. I put it here in thumbnail format as the actual size of the file is quite large.

The goal of the project was to basically create an advertisement of one of our friends – show what they like to do and exemplify that in the design. She likes biking, so I took her out to a park and she hopped right on.

She is a very close friend of mine, with an adorable smile. I wanted to to express her childish side, which isn’t hard to do with a smile like that. I told her to ride around the park as I took photos, and she did absolutely great. Her friends came along as well, which made it easier to get a natural smile.

The idea was to make it look like something a teenager might do. It was originally going to be a photo album look, but I changed it, boring the polaroid image templates and creating a cork board look. With the addition of tape, sticky note, and a few hand drawn pins on Photoshop, it was finished up.

It isn’t spectacular, but it will be good enough to get me my A. I hate the phrase I paired with it, but at 3 in the morning of the night before it’s due, I needed some filler and needed it quick.

Just a little detour from writing here.
