Slow It Down, Son

Posted on May 7th, 2010 By Under Facebook

I get this question a lot when I do consulting?

“Why does Facebook always disapprove all my ads, even if I submit, like, 200 – 300 ads with the Facebook Ad Manager? I put in a big mix of 100% legit ads, so they should at least approve those, right?”

Well, I want you to imagine you’re some nerdy college student and you just nailed an internship job at Facebook. Sweet, right? But then they put you on the advertising team. Great… NOT! You just got the kick-ass job of looking at tiny pics of underage girls, and disapproving them… all – day – long.

Now if this were really you, would you really inspect all 300 of those images from one advertiser, or get sick after the first few and batch disapprove them? I have no idea how the approval/disapproval system works at Facebook, but I imagine they have the ability to just disapprove all your ads at once somehow.

Slow it down. I always seemed like I had more success submitting 20 – 30 different ads at a time, rather than 500 at once. Facebook has also banned accounts for submitting/resubmitting too many ads at a time, so its a safety precaution, as well. This isn’t just with Facebook, but almost every other platform, I’ve seen some kind of batch disapproval like this.

If you want to submit more than that, split it up over multiple Facebook accounts. I’ll go into that with more detail another day.

Make sure you’re on the mailing list (sign up form is on the right!) because it’s Freebie Friday! I’ll have a pretty unique, nice looking landing page available for download when I send it out later today!

    Hey Justin,

I can tell for a fact that the interns at FB don't check every ad because I had a chance to upload some ads with non-working URLs and they still approved them, only because those ads were somewhere in the middle of the batch, so the intern probably took a look at the first few ads and then decided to approve (or in other cases disapprove) them.

    FYI.

For the love of god intern stands for internal, it doesn't mean intern.

Seriously, I thought this was common knowledge by now.

Also, you'd have to be a complete retard not to come to the conclusion that maybe (JUST MAYBE) all of your ads are getting disapproved when you submit 500 at once because, well, you are submitting 500 at once.

If one of my sites got mass spammed from the same IP address I wouldn't go through 500 individually to find a legit comment to approve. Would you?

Pretty thin article, Justin. You could've at least included a couple of examples to prove your point instead of theorizing about how the FB system works. Hell, any of us can do that.

      Okay.

My success rate of getting ads approved when submitting 100+ ads is probably about 5%. This is with clean ads.

When I submit 20 – 40 at a time (I never do more than 50 in one approval period), my approval percentage jumps up to about 50%.

Of course, if you're slinging shady ads, you'll have a very low approval percentage no matter what, and then it will be retroactively disapproved within a week in most cases. That's been my experience.
