Prepare your fake testimonials, flogs, farticles and other coined term landing pages for tomorrow! The FTC’s new guidelines on advertising (specifically more appointed towards bloggers, celebrity endorsements, reviews, testimonials, etc) goes in to effect and you’d be smart to follow the rules with them. You can read more about the new rules here.
Honestly, I haven’t run a fake landing page style blog or news site for months. I don’t find it worth the risk, and I know there are other ways to get consumers to buy products. Unless you are already banking hard on them, I’d avoid them until clearer guidelines are published or we see that they aren’t actually targeting affiliates with this change (that’s a long shot).
For those that do still run flogs/farticles/whatever, I’d seriously consider checking up with your lawyer. If you aren’t putting the correct disclaimers in your landing pages footer, you could be walking yourself into an dark alley of trouble. Wickedfire has a good thread on the subject. Make sure you check it out.
