Keeping Sober – A Great Business Decision

Posted on October 21st, 2010 By Under Productivity

I’m not exactly sure how many days over a month it has been, but I’ve been sober for longer than a month now. At first, I hadn’t planned to quit drinking. I just caught the flu and was sticking to water and juices, but as the illness went away, so did my yearning to drink. I still go out to the clubs just as much as I used to (a few times a week), its just now I can actually converse with people and understand what I’m saying, I feel a lot more healthy, I’m losing a lot of fat, I sleep longer and better at night, and I still have just the same amount of fun as I did when I was drunk without the horrible consequences.

On top of this, I’m able to consciously pick who I’ll converse with, rather than picking the closest decent looking girl to start up a conversation, I’ll look for the guy with the most money and try and charm my way into starting a business relationship with him (or her). It’s opened some serious doors, with talks of 6 and 7-figure deals currently in progress for me. These connections also get me through the door with attractive and wealthy women, so it’s not always just business on my mind.

I don’t think there is anything wrong with limiting yourself, and I certainly know I won’t be able to hold out forever, but I’ll save any alcohol for business deals where the cheapest thing we’re drinking is more like how much I’d spend after going to the club 10 days in a row.

You don’t have to jump out on a limb and follow suit here, but for me it’s been a great decision and one I don’t regret. I feel better, my business is growing faster than I could have expected due to it, and I still have a ton of fun!

For those ready for next week’s webinar, you can sign up here! It’s tentatively scheduled for 12 – 1 PM CDT (Central US Time), although that is subject to change. I’ll be giving away 3 FREE forum accounts good for the life of the forums, a couple downloads and we should have some content ready to talk to everyone about as well! The topic will most likely cover Facebook Advertising.

  1. Good idea. Usually people lose a ton of weight when they stop drinking so don't wilt away into nothing

  2. I've never had the inclination to quit drinking. But then again I only drink like once a week. Good for you though, sobriety is supposedly one of the greatest gifts for many people.

  3. Congrats on your new "life changing" decision. I'm not a drinker — mainly because I'm not old enough — but I've always found that social drinking is the best way to go. You have a lot less physical consequences and a lot more financial and networking opportunities.

    congrats,

    i've seen many bounce back like that, a lot harder than before;

    keep up the momentum !

I have to admit. Drinking and smoking are my crutch after a long day of work. Nothing too excessive, just a couple glasses of wine or a shot before watching some TV. I do think I could be even more productive and clear-minded if I abstained though. Good post.

    Hi Justin

Best of luck on that one. I'd love to give up drinking but Ive got 3 kids under 5 and its the only thing that keeps me sane sometime.

    Maybe when their older…

congrats though I must admit that I always think that the first sign of an alcoholic is one that has to boast about the length of time, and enjoyment they're having, without – maybe you should stay off for good!

  8. gdubs says:

sorry justin, i have to disagree. Being sober is really overrated.

I won't be staying completely sober, but I'm done getting drunk off my ass, and it will be an un-occassional even when I do drink.

We're all entitled to out own opinions.

    Good effort!

I've had years of 3-4 times a week drinking, because of lots of funds and lots of free time and due to being young and careless. So this is very strong delusion for the mind, with the consequences that could be so harsh…

A junkie image is no longer attractive in modern world.

But I have to admint some things, people are different. If you once experience all the excitements of being high on alchohol, some time later while you get your sober period during some boring or just painful or stressful situations you subsequently go for a bottle. Moreover I can't judge everyone, but there is a notion, which may have different terms and descriptions, which is about changing the way of thinking, expanding the perception or whatever you call it. Constant and static picture of everyday life pushes millions people to drink. Inevitably.

There are good examples of individuals, who's nature is somekind different. They just dont need any drugs and just high, being cool, inventing new approaches to life and new experiences. I respect this people. But if you are one of those who's already experienced booze trips, it'll require 100x or 1000x times more effirt and more serious work at youself, rather than for those, who have never been attached to any type of drugs.

As for me, past 2 years I had periods of 9-10 months of 0% drinking, but then I admittedly took a bottle of beer or a glass of burbon with friends. And always got unbelievable experience of instant mind picture, like junkie revelations. I put down my ideas and they appered to be valuable the next day. This is instant shift from some sort of tunnel vision to mind flow.

There are certainly other ways of shifting. Traveling for example, or any sort of new experiences.

Still experimenting and came to the conclusion, that if you resist something strong, relying only on your will-power it may return and get you involved again.

This post contains very familiar issues for me, that's why I wrote.

All the best in your endevours!

Im actually T-total and i feel great for it, alot more healthier and my liver is thanking for it.

Also in my oppinion its not worth getting wasted when your only going to wake up the next day feeling like crap and not wanting to do anything apart from throw up and sleep.

But congrats on the decision to stay sober, wise choice

  11. Hi Justin,

Well done! There are so many lies waisted by over drinking….

No! I do enjoy my drink and have no plans to give it up

    Keep up the good work.

    Cheers

    Bryan

  12. The new blog layout is pretty nice. Lots of space and plenty of big text for the older crowd. Sounds like you found some serious benefits to not drinking.

  13. Dia says:

  14. Mike P says:

you are a better man than me bro and keep up the good work thats great to hear.

  15. Barry Wells says:

Hi Justin, congratulations on giving up the drink. Its good to hear that you're getting so much more done without it, and remembering the pretty ones you've seen is always a bonus;)

I haven't had a serious drink for a few years now and i don't miss it mate. I used to hate the thick head in the mornings and with age that happens all the more.

Fairplay to you, i hope you keep it going and keep progressing with your business ideas.

    R&R Barry
