I love playing games. I’ve probably tried out about 20 different MMOs this year, and I’ve stuck with a couple at a time. For many of you hustlers out there, you probably think PC games are a waste of time. Meh, its a form of entertainment. Some people go dance at a club, some people go raid some dungeons, then dance in their guild’s castle. What’s the big difference there, right?
Well, there are some ways you can actually get some cash back and build a decent website off of this with minimal investment. One such example I was working on that got me introduced to the idea was with the game Eve Online.
Now I could have gone off to sell my ISK (the in-game currency), but its against ToS and can be a lengthy boring process with very little reward when all is said and done. A new player could probably make enough to sell 5-10 dollars in ISK a day if they had a good corporation to party with.
What we want is a real asset. Something we can grow with minimal work on our end (grinding = work = not fun). So I thought, why not make an Eve Online blog. I won’t disclose the URL since I don’t play Eve anymore and the site is pretty much dead, but its got about 20 grammatically correct English, and 100% unique posts that I probably paid about $15 to get. A lot for a little.
The idea was, I offer a large sum of ISK to write. You can’t buy ISK with real money, but you can buy one month time-cards, which can then be sold for about 300,000,000 ISK. A month time card cost around $15 or so. To a new player, and even many veterans, 10 million ISK is a lot. You can go grind for a few hours to get that, or you can write 30 minutes for it. I think in some instances, I’d only be paying 20ish cents for a short article and $1.50 for a long 500 – 1000 word original walkthrough.
It was relatively easy to recruit people to write as there are several noob channels and recruitment channels that span across the whole universe. I’d request a sample article and if it was good, gave them an account on WordPress to keep writing.
So I’ve got a ton of great content that I payed $15 for. It’s also on a kick-ass domain. If I wanted to, I could sell it for a couple hundred bucks, or just slap some banners up and hope for some small ad revenue here and there.
It’s a basic idea that maybe some of you guys can take and expand upon, especially if you are a gamer like me.

Haha I used to rock the shit out of stuff like this in Ultima Online for like the last 10 years lol.
Thanks Justin for sharing this. If you can get some nice valuable content for that amount, then it's really worth paying. But, my question is, are those content for that price really worthwhile?
I've tried paying $4.95 for a 500 word article and the result was not that I expected. If you can share where to find that, then it's worth taking a look.
Kind regards,
Gary
It was all written by fluent, native English speakers. It was worth 10-20x the amount I was paying them.
Props dude, that is an awesome idea.
Hey Justin,
I have to say, I'm not sure what an ISK is? I'm not too much of a techie. I'm a writer – who's able to fumble around on WordPress a bit
Sounds like you have a lot of interesting ideas as to how to make money on your site – that much I get.
Thanks for sharing.
so basically barter in game currency for articles
nice
maybe i should save those zynga points from 7-11
Good post…
This is a great example of thinking outside of the box. You could apply this idea to many different industries/niches.
