Facebook’s ad system is a doozy of non-logical ad rotation, and I’ve heard and experienced way too many stories of wasted money spent due to the way it prioritizes ad spend. Basically, if you set up one campaign with a large amount of ads (25+) in a CPC campaign, and one of your ads gets an early click, the Facebook Ad’s system will prioritize impressions only to that ad and basically say “Screw you other ads. This is the obvious winner.” As a marketer, we obviously want to test all the angles, ad copies and images that we can, but this system can make it fairly difficult. Let’s talk about how we can get past this.

First step – Increase your CPC bids. Hurr durr, Justin. I know. But, in many cases this just isn’t enough. You’ll have to keep bumping the CPC, sometimes over $1 your original bid before you start getting any impressions. In some case, it doesn’t work at all. This isn’t a reliable method of sharing impressions across all your ads.

Another thing we can do – switch to CPM. CPM has its downfalls. Actually, that seems to be all CPM has going for itself. Facebook has even said “run CPM if you don’t want clicks on your ads.” CPM clicks generally cost more CPC-wise, and have a very low CTR. The quality of those that do click is also a fair bit lower than its CPC bidding clickers. What it is good for is getting a general idea of what is working, though. The ads will share a greater portion of views across more ads, however we still aren’t perfect. In many cases, you might find only 5 – 10 ads get any impressions and we fall into the same problem you had before.

Another idea is to resubmit ads not getting impressions. Simple remake the ad, stick it in the same campaign and delete the original. I think Facebook gives a little priority to new ads to give them a small test. If you remake all 50 ads though, you’ll run into the same problem, but this shows us something. Less ads in one campaign gives a fairer share of impressions.

So a more true solution is to break up your many ads into multiple campaigns. 3 – 10 ads per campaign will ensure a better share ratio. 1 ad per campaign almost insures you will get impressions on the ad. It’s a lot of extra work to set that up, but if you have a large variety of ads that need testing, this might be the only solution left for you if all others fail to perform.

If you have any questions on Facebook marketing, drop them in the comments below. I might turn it into a post on the blog!

A lack of effort and focus. This is the main quality of any failed affiliate marketer. The chances you are going to drop a couple ads you stole off a Facebook spy, take the exact images and ad copy and make $100 bucks, these days, is slim to zero. I try to teach my coaching students the best I can, giving them whole campaigns that are currently profitable, but after a few days of testing I always get this reply – “This seems like too much work. Is there any easier way to make money?”

The mindset that affiliate marketing is “easy” is a problem a lot of people are stuck with. Bloated affiliate network newsletters that provide very little details other than “This offer is generating huge EPCs for our affiliates across all traffic networks with an xyz style landing page” and lame informational products filled with misinformation, developed by those that don’t actually know jack$hit, don’t help with AM being perceived as “easy”. This is what I tell my clients when they ask that previous question:

“Sure, but it involves flipping burgers and dropping buckets of fries all day long.”

I imagine all of my affiliate marketing work as a large part of my business. Like almost any other business, it doesn’t just launch and blow up overnight. I’ve got research to do. I have to know what my target market wants and how they want it. I need to know how to deliver it before they get it. And then even when I know all that, I still need to test it and other similar variations to get in the black. There is no “easy” way to get around that. Even if someone hands a campaign to you on a silver platter, if you aren’t analyzing why it works and how you can improve it, you’ll always fail and end up back in square one.

You do need to focus, and put effort into building campaigns up, 1 at a time. Test 10 landing pages instead of 2. Test 100 images, rather than 10. Try 5 very different headlines, then test adjectives on your best performing ones. This extra effort and focus is what has made some of my clients $500 campaigns after 1 week of coaching, and I believe it is one of the redeeming qualities that has made me the marketer I am today.

Seasonal offers crush profit figures. If you didn’t capitalize off of Halloween, Thanksgiving, Black Friday and Cyber Monday, you were doing it wrong. You’ve got a couple more chances to make up for it with Christmas and New Years on the horizon. One thing that kills are Letters From Santa. Hit those parents up and lets sell some letters.

The Offer

So the big offer this year looks like its gonna be this:

OriginalSantaLetter.com – If you don’t have it on your readily available CPA accounts, use oDigger to search for it and sign up for new networks that do have it! You can never be signed up to enough networks, and there is no penalty for signing up to 50 different networks, except you might fill up your inbox a little faster.

Let’s keep in mind that this isn’t the only Santa Letter’s offer available. Split test them throughout every campaign you run. You have no excuses not to, so just do it! The LP is simple and straightforward on this page, and while a little wide for direct popping on PPV, there is nothing saying this can’t be profitable (and last year it was, although on a very select few targets). This offer will be built best for search, social, PPV and anywhere else you can easily target parents, as that is our core demographic. No need to do research on this offer, as it’s completely obvious.

How To Run the Offer

Lets think about who we can target with these offers. You’ve got the obvious direct route. On search and PPV you can target letters from Santa keywords and urls. Go ahead and find all the affiliate offers and target them, too. I know affiliates that make all their income from simply popping over other affiliate offers, so yes, it works!

But that isn’t very scalable. You’ll have to think slightly outside the box instead, but not too far. Christmas is a time for giving, so lets just look for targets where parents buy their kids gifts. Amazon toys, Toys R’ Us, hobby shops (what boy doesn’t love trains when he’s a kid?), shops for dolls (what girls don’t like Barbies?). Again, we’re not going for any extreme angles. Some of you seem to be overthinking your campaigns, then you look at me and ask why I’m underthinking things. I’ll tell you, because smart people don’t buy your acai, muscle pills, or Santa letters they could easily make themselves at no cost. Simple works because most of your conversions come from simple people. K.I.S.S.

This offer would be tricky to run on Facebook but 100% capable. Try an add like:

A Real Christmas – Want to give a real surprise to your child this Christmas? Get an authentic, genuine card from Santa! Order now!

An ad like this compels a mom or dad that this is a great extra treat to give their kids, as well as signifying that there is a cost using the CTA (call to action) “Order now”. This makes sure your clickers are prepared and knowledgeable that they actually have to pay for something.

Landing Pages

Now, again, remember that we have multiple offers here. So we could pick and choose which one to run individually, rotate them all, or what I’ll suggest – run them all at one time. This will work well outside of PPV. With PPV you’d most likely have to use a landing page sequence (several landing pages) and it would be relatively hard to optimize by Christmas. Stick with traditional PPV landing pages and rotate through the offers until you find one that works.

It’s time to get creative and start working on a review style landing page. Never seen one of those before? Check this out. (Free Download Here – Give thanks to LPDesigner.com). It’s best if you know which offers work best before you launch a campaign with a review style landing page. Most networks should have internal data that give you general estimates on this so don’t be afraid to ask for it. Those who ask have a better chance of receiving than those who do not. Obviously, a higher EPC deems it be put in a higher position, however in some instances I’ve found that putting the best offer as number 2 works out.

As for what you’ll fill in the offer with, think of each section as its own landing page. What would you include on its own? What benefits does one service have over the other? Rotate through a few of these once you have some winning targets and start to reap some conversions.

Difficulty: 3 out of 5

This isn’t a terribly difficult niche, but its seasonal, which means if you haven’t already set this up, you should do so soon.

And as always, if you are having trouble making a profit with this campaign, or any at all, my coaching services are here to help you out!

I love the dating niche. It’s easy money once you crack it, and its even easier money once you learn how to do it internationally, and no, I’m not talking about every other English speaking country out there. This is actually going to be, what I think, a very simple, but hopefully, very informational post for all of you struggling affiliate marketers out there.

The Offer

Here is where you’ll have to do a little research on your own. Find an international dating offer you think will do well. For me, it can almost be a gut feeling that makes me pick promoting one offer over 100 others. Other times, when I feel like spending a lot, I’ll test them all. The best way to go about this is to really hit up your affiliate manager and ask them for some internal numbers. I know you will probably be looking at “top offer lists” but I’m going to tell you something I’ve never published before here…

Many of the top offers, once they get to that stage, fail to perform. In fact, I’ve run several “top offers” before they were so and they crushed it for months at a time for me. Then, once they get up there, they crash and burn. This is due to increased competition which drives click costs up, usually kills lead quality for the advertiser (stop being so shady, affiliates!), and can stretch an advertisers budget meaning more shaving. This isn’t to say every top offer is a loser – I still run some here in there, but my best offers are usually completely new to networks before thousands of other affiliates bombard it with traffic from who knows where.

Step outside your comfort zone and try new things. Look for offers with a simple conversion path. Ignore payouts. So long as its over a couple dollars, you’ll be okay. I’ve had profitable international dating affiliate campaigns on $1.20 payouts, before. Go down the conversion path to get into the mindset of a user. You can use Google Translate to get you through the tough parts. Just make sure if its a leadgen offer, the user wouldn’t have to fill in 50 pages of information before the conversion pixel fires.

Want some suggestions? Be2 has offers in a ton of countries, and the offers convert well (especially with a landing page). I see Cupid has now gone international with an offer called “Ange de L’amour” (either that or they completely ripped the logo) – a French offer. Offers for countries in SE Asia will get you tons of traffic for less than penny clicks on Facebook and some display networks. Brazil and Portugal are some great countries to put early efforts in to (If anyone needs some Portuguese translation done, hit me up and I’ll get it translated for you at a small cost)

Research

We’re not going to be doing an Quantcast or Alexa style research here. The information and stats you’ll get outside of the main English speaking countries is pretty limited. And, come on, we’re not trying to promote an education degree for rocket science – we’re pushing dating at lonely, horny guys and crazy batshit cat loving women. If you aren’t sure how to go about that, get my consulting. </plug>

The most important thing to get down in your ad copy. This is simple, simple, simple! You’ll be gathering data on your own using Plenty of Fish or Facebook. We’ll be looking at 1 core analytic – click through rate (CTR). CTR is probably the most important aspect of international dating campaigns, because the click costs are so cheap for non-English speaking countries you’ll wish you started advertising there from the start (for some of you that follow me on Facebook, you might have noticed my post about getting 540 clicks for 55 cents. This is for a couple Asian dating campaigns, so 1/10th cent clicks are completely viable here).

Anywho, back to gathering data. We’ll start off with a simple English dating campaign. Pick a general dating offer, or one that is already profiting for you, and set it up on PoF or Facebook. Choose 1 image you think will perform well. I’ve stopped using cleavage shots on Facebook, and stick with clean shots, shoulders and up, with the camera angled down at a smiling girl. Something like this. If you’ve gotten the huge image pack from my email list, there is a few in there. Use just 1 image. You probably won’t be making a profit on this campaign anyways, so think of what you are about to do as an incredibly cheap investment into a future of lots of dating monies.

Write 10 different ad copies. More if you want. Make them all different. Play with fear. Go the simple route. Make a complex ad. Make one talking about meeting a girl tonight. Write one about meeting the girl you will marry. If you can’t be creative about it, I can for you. We’re then going to set up our general dating ad at our main demographic – Men 25 – 40 for a typical, general dating site. These guys will take your ads into a little more consideration than horny 18 year olds.

Set your budget at $50 – $100 and just let the ads run. Perhaps you’ll pick up a few conversions, perhaps zero, but you should be getting clicks. Conversions will depend on the offer, so if you pick a bad offer you probably won’t make much back. Again, this isn’t your goal. We want to see our top performing ads.

Now, to pick your top performing ads, first, see if any got consistent conversions after going through that $50 – 100. If it was just 1 or two here and there, ignore the statistic and move onto CTR. Take your ads with the highest CTR ((clicks/impressions) * 100) and then get to translating them. If you need Thai, Portuguese or Tagalog translated, I have guys on my team that can do that for you – however, for everything else, I recommend OneHourTranslation.com. They’re amazingly fast, you’ve got a lot of different people that can translate for you, and it’s extremely affordable. For a few Facebook/PoF style ads, you won’t have to spend more than $20 – 30, probably less.

Now stick them to your offers with hundreds of images. This is the very, very simple process I go through to get things rolling. Many times, its down to the offer. Sometimes, some offers are just shit for the countries traffic, or they expect too much for the amount of data they need for a conversion, but there are plenty of great offers that should help you over come any losses you might obtain. And losses should still be extremely low. With click prices in some of my listed countries, you shouldn’t have to spend more than 20 or so dollars to fully give an offer a decent test.

How do you test landing pages? Much in the same way you test your offers. Create your simple set of ads, split test English ad copies and designs, take your best performing landing page copies and translate them. Is a landing page required? No, direct linking works great for me, many times with 200%+ ROIs, but when I throw landing pages up, even stupid simple ones, they double my returns.

Difficulty: 1.5 out of 5

International dating is simple. My ads are almost always consistent performers across the countries and offers I test. While some offers might not perform at all, others might, or the country might just be a dead end (I’ve found Asian countries like Singapore and Hong Kong to be very difficult, but that is probably due to the very international climate there).

Final Thoughts

It takes money to make money, and my testing methods prove this. You can go ahead and wing it, and if you are lucky you might make it, but my stats have talked for me. Taking the time to look at those stats and how I got things right, then replicate that success out internationally has helped me to the stage I’m at now. International dating is still a highly unexplored area by most affiliates, simply because many are too lazy to take the time to accurately translate their ads (Google Translate =/= accurate). It’s cheap and can be highly rewarding so jump on it, and focus on it until you make it work!

Oh, and if you liked that first pic, I’ve got more on my old Thai girls blog.

Ahem – I’m sorry for the lack of posts here. You know how it is. We get busy, blah blah, not enough time, blah blah – but then I’d just be making excuses for myself. Time to get back to business with some regular postings again.

So today I’ve got a great video with an awesome new SMS-marketing tool from Leadsmob.com. This tool allows you to easily build landing pages, lists and send out emails and SMS to use with mobile traffic. It’s litterally an all in one spot to get your mobile monies on, and it really impressed me. Anyways – rather than me try to explain something I’m relatively new to, listen to Joshua Wexelbaum explain just how you can build a campaign using Leadsmob.

So some pretty cool stuff indeed. The ability to build a mobile optimized landing page, and capture all the data right there is amazing! I’ll be working more one-on-one with my homeboy, Josh, and Leadsmob so hopefully one of my later posts I can show you a case study on how I was able to integrate it into my daily affiliate marketing business.

Sign up to Leadsmob today and get some free credits to make some money with! If you need any help, feel free to contact me or Josh!

You campaigns aren’t converting, your ads don’t get clicks, click costs are too high, and a once great converting campaign gets taken down or starts shaving leads. These are just a few of the problems I deal with on a daily basis. Now if you are struggling to jump off the ground and make a real profit, read through the following tips and put them to use. Remember, I’m not trying to feed you bullshit – these are tips that I’ve put in to practice when necessary, and they help me get back from frustrating days.

1. Slow Down

Now, you might think that taking 20 campaigns and throwing up general campaigns at Facebook or TrafficVance might be the best course of action to find something that converts. Do 10 minutes of keyword and target scraping for each offer and you’re done! Great plan, right? Wrong. If you fail to even get a single conversion with this method, it wouldn’t surprise me. Launch carefully planned, carefully researched campaigns. Look at what others are doing first, why what they are doing works, and “borrow” if you have to. If you are outright stealing campaigns, failing to understand why things convert, you’ll always be relying on others to make money before you. The real big ballers are the innovators.

2. Target Tighter/Smaller

Broad campaigns are what everyone dreams of. Setting up a RON campaign to millions of people and making thousands a day in return. If you are new and struggling, this is most likely going to be cause for frustration and significant losses. Come of with an angle or a very niche offer that requires you to target smaller reaches and less populated URLs and keywords. While you won’t be making thousands with this kind of method, if I was new I would rather see $10 of profit per day rather than $500+ lost a day.

3. Work With One Traffic Source

Stop jumping around. Just because the first 3 campaigns you tried didn’t work out, doesn’t mean the next 10 will fail. Chances are, if people are talking about 1 traffic source and how they are making money with it, they probably aren’t lying about it. If they can get something to work, so can you.

4. Stop Hopping Around Different Offers

Just because your first ads didn’t profit, doesn’t mean it is a complete loser. This goes hand in hand with the above. If people are talking about an offer, there is most likely money to be made in it. Pick a few different offers, max, and make them work for you!

5. Work with Only a Few Smaller Networks

There are lots of large networks out there that have thousands of affiliates. These guys usually have a fantastic amount of offers, but support can be real hit and miss. When I was struggling to find new offers that worked, I would branch out to smaller affiliate networks and ask them what some of their strongest offers were. They are usually more willing to divulge inside info, as well as having much faster and better attended support. The more loyal you are in sending traffic to these small guys, the better they’ll come to treat you.

6. Get To Know Your AM

Affiliate Managers have access to a lot of data. EPCs, traffic sources, creatives, landing pages, etc. Again, we’re going to hold hands with the above point. The more loyal and talkative with your AM, the better you’ll be treated. Affiliate Managers are paid when we get paid, so if they aren’t helping us, they’re not gettin’ any money from me! Say hi and remind your AM you are around every morning and ask them about any new offers. Make sure they remember who you are!

7. Go Private

If you get to know your AMs a little better, they might be able to let you into the world of private offers. There is so much untapped potential here, because most people think that affiliate networks make all their offers public and requestable to everyone. Larger networks can have 100s of hidden offers that you might not know about until you actually ask to see them. These offers have less competition and shitty traffic squandering them, and you’re 10x more likely to draw a profit from them.

8. Always Track Everything You Can

You can use the free Tracking202, or upgrade to the newer and more frequently updated CPVLAB. Both are excellent and have some features that the other doesn’t. Use these guys to track all the data that you can and analyze it! What time of day did you get the most conversions? When are you getting the highest EPC? When is it the lowest? Which banner ad gets the highest conversion rate? Which keywords are only breaking even and is there something you can do to bump the CVR on those targets?

9. Try Landing Pages Out

I know you want the easy way out with a directly linked campaign, but in 90% of my campaigns, a landing page almost always converts better. That little added presell can help take someone not interested in what you are marketing, into a potential lead, and it helps build trust and flow with those already 100% ready to fill in the offer page’s fields.

10. If all else fails…

Get a coach/mentor/consultant to work with you. Yes, I know. Shameless self promotion. But there are people out there that are willing to give you genuine advice. Use them if you feel like you need a really big boost to get in front of the wolf pack.

Do you have any tips you can share from when you were a noobie affiliate? Drop them in the comments! And don’t worry – my 31 Campaigns aren’t going anywhere. You can expect a new one tonight, as well as a freebie Friday giveaway hitting your inbox tonight as well!

I’ve been writing a lot of “affiliate marketing campaign walkthroughs” the past month, and those things take a heck of a long time to prepare, so I thought I’d use a little downtime to talk about what 2012 has in store for affiliate marketers.

If you plan on sticking with affiliate marketing for the long haul, it is always important that you know whats on the coming horizon. Fall behind and you won’t be prepared to change and adapt your business and marketing tactics fast enough to keep up. I saw a lot of affiliates struggling after a successful 2009 moving into 2010, and the same for those that started in 2010 moving into 2011. A lot has changed since I started about 4 years back, and I can’t say many parts of my business has stayed the same. We’ll be seeing a lot of changes in 2012.

The death of the average affiliate on Facebook is upon us. I know lots of us love Facebook, and lots of us have a burning desire to take a boot and shove it up the internal ad’s team ass over there. What we’ve seen that past year on Facebook ads are lots more banning from better tracking on Facebook’s end, and lots of changes to the system that tailors Facebook ads to small business, service, app and game owners. Rules have gotten stricter and there seems to be a 1 strike and your out rule applied. A hidden account quality score is almost certainly in place, meaning the better your score the more impressions you’ll get, along with cheaper clicks. And affiliate’s are getting categorized with a lower QS. On top of that, we’ve also got ads, like dating, with impression caps… either that or it is so bogged up with dating ads that there really aren’t enough impressions to go around.

Despite all the bad things I’ve listed above, hope is not lost for the ol’ affiliate on Facebook. Facebook Pages and Groups have become an amazing source for contacting and growing out subscriber numbers. On top of that, they generally seem to be cheaper overall. I suppose this has to do with the fact that the traffic stays on Facebook through the whole process. My plan for Facebook is to start researching what people are buying, learn how to target people that are buying information on that stuff, then to create subscription sites based around this while using Facebook pages and groups to build demand for my sites. I had a recent chat with someone doing this in a wild niche you would never think could make any money – Try 1000 subscribers at $40 a month each in a niche that is ridiculously easy to target on Facebook, not to mention cheap. I’ll keep the details private, but this is a simple form of adapting to the trends of Facebook just generally hating on us affiliates.

PPV. Another traffic source people either get along with off the bat or can never seem to get to work. We’ve seen a surge of tools that spy and autobid pop up lately. This isn’t good for the new affiliate, as it generally just teaches an affiliate how to steal landing pages and target lists, and then get in out of control bidding wars for those that don’t have access to the tools. Pop costs across the most popular traffic sources have been bumped. Less and less offers are actually accepting pop-traffic, and I don’t always blame them. From my internal testing, the overall quality is very low.

PPV isn’t all bad and blah. There are lots of niches and campaigns that still work, you just need to work a little harder to bump quality if you plan on running anything more than a couple weeks there. Make sure you are really preselling things hard if you are taking creative angles, because if there is one thing an advertiser hates, its gotta be the leads that were pre-sold illegitimately.

We’re seeing the return of the rebill these past couple months. That’s great because it’s easy money, but didn’t anyone learn their lesson the last time rebills blew up? A whole lot of Oprah and the FTC killing some affiliates and networks operations is what happens when you start pushing too much volume and fake testimonials. Until someone can find a way to sell these without being a complete joke and a lie, you’re going to be walking into unsteady territory. Hell, even Clickbank is cracking down on how Guru’s sell their bizops.

One strong note for the next year – MOBILE! Mobile is absolutely blowing up and is something you’ll want to start getting your ass on ASAP! We’ve got amazing technology that is making some smartphones more powerful than some notebooks I’ve seen on the low-budget market. With faster connectivity and dropping bandwidth costs and the constant need for many to get information on the go, mobile platforms will soon surpass online surfing time from PCs. More mobile ad platforms are slowly popping up, and WAP offers are killing traffic sources after a small amount of testing and optimization. Mobile is like Facebook ads 5 years ago – extremely cheap and very easy to game. Jump on it before the rush!

Of course, whether or not affiliate marketing survives depends a lot on the global climate and economy. I’d be an idiot to give a factual rundown of what is actually going on, but from what I gather, the US is headed for a zombie apocalypse, China will eventually being running child labor factories in western-developed countries, and the polar ice caps are melting. Now if any of this happens, big changes in affiliate marketing will come. If your main targets can’t afford to buy anything, you’re going to need to find a new market. The main idea here is that if there is a large social, economic or political collapse in any country you run traffic through, you can expect to lose a lot of revenue. If you aren’t a multi-national traffic buying machine now, get into the swing of things and start doing it!

How do you expect to survive 2012? What do you plan to do differently next year that you didn’t do this year? Have you packed up your zombie apocalypse survival bag yet? How will you be an affiliate marketer in 2012?

Currently, Untrue is one of the hottest converting adult dating offers available for affiliate marketers to push. You’re not going to have much success legitimately marketing on your standard social traffic sources like Plenty of Fish or Facebook. In fact, you’re looking to get banned, so we’ll be taking a closer look at a specific adult traffic source more so than the offer itself. While it is always important to understand the offer you are promoting, its not that hard to understand a man will follow his “snake” before he uses his brain… and that is just the kind of man we need to convert on this offer.

The Offer

Untrue labels itself as a discreet dating site for married folks to hook up (or for someone to meet a married person, if that is what you are in to). It is an adult/erotic hookup site, so, again, you won’t want to be running this where adult offers are allowed. If you can cloak and build new Facebook accounts just for these types of offers, you’ll stack money to the ceiling, but come on – I’m trying to run a legitimate business where the people I buy inventory from learn to love me, not ban me every other day. I don’t recommend you go this route because in the long run, you’ll regret not having your original Facebook account with a good advertising history, your own name and large spending budget on it. I certainly miss mine!

The offer page is good enough to direct link to, and there are several different variations of landing pages available. This goes for two other top adult dating offers out there, Just Hook Up and Up For It. Try them all and you’ll find they can generally be cross promoted with the same banner creatives.

I’ll be skipping research here, because, again, it is dating. Your best quality traffic is going to be 40 and up, either lonely suckers or guys looking to cheat on their wives. Typically, you’re only going to be able to get this through adult traffic sources and one of my favorites is Exoclick. I’ve talked about them before, but I’ll be going a little more into detail here.

How To Run This Offer

Go get your account setup and confirmed at Exoclick. This might take a day or two. Just make sure to send them an email after you’ve got your first campaign setup and ready to go. But before you can start launching this campaign, you’ll want to start building banner ads. Typically, you’ll have the highest inventory counts with 300 x 250 banner sized ads. Leaderboards, header banners (468 x 60) and wide towers are also available, but in more limited quality. While they don’t always perform the best, I’ll usually test out the 300 x 250s first so I can get as much traffic out of the gate as possible.

When thinking about what to include on your banners, keep the offer and target market in mind. You are going after guys that want to meet married women, so they aren’t looking for a real committed relationship. “Want to meet married women? Click here!” Stupid simple and easy to test. You can get into more complex ads down the line, but for now we want to gather conversion data which will be the best way to get this campaign rolling and profitable ASAP. Design your ads in many different styles. Animation typically ads to CTR which is a major player in deciding how long you’ll actually be able to serve your ad. I’ve seen a lot of very basic, simple styled ads perform well, as well as ads that mimic ads you might see on another popular social networking site performing very well.

Now how do we collect data on Exoclick? Exoclick makes it pretty easy already. You can create a very, very broadly targeted campaign, spend $100 on a CPC campaign and see where your clicks came from vs. where your conversions came from. Exoclick has its own tracking pixel for its reporting which means you are in for an easy ride. If you want to be a little more targeted off the bat, you have the option of targeting by category and keywords. I would stick to the adult category targeting. I am not sure how Exoclick works with keywords, whether it sees the keyword you are targeting on the site then displays the ads or what, but I’d imagine it’d have a huge impact on the amount of impressions you can serve and the amount of people actually clicking.

So, once you have your ads set up and running, you should set your budget at around $100 – $200. If you start spending a fair amount and aren’t seeing conversions, try split testing the offers across various affiliate networks. There is no reason that any of these offers shouldn’t be converting unless you are getting shaved by the network. If you are seeing conversions, check out your conversion reports on Exoclick. Most importantly, look at which banners and sites your ads have been displayed on give you the highest earnings per click. This is ALWAYS the most important statistic to look at in any CPC campaign you run. Likewise, earnings per mille (1000 impressions) is the most important stat on CPM campaigns. CTR means jack squat if you can’t get a conversion.

You should have that important data down and start building campaigns specifically for each site you are converting on. Visit that site and see where exactly your banners are displaying. How can you get more attention to them? What color is the site? How can you make your banner look more like the site to generate more click-throughs? Test clashing designs to see if that works better. This is optimization at work and you will constantly want to be, at least A/B split testing especially in the long run. Banner blindness sets in fast, especially on adult traffic!

Difficulty: 2 out of 5

The offers convert fairly simple, you just need to have a bit of money to spend testing offers, understand tracking and why it is important.

Final Comments

Dating has never been a difficult niche, but a lot of it is just testing and knowing where you are getting conversions on each specific offer. This is especially important with adult traffic because each site can have a large variety of demographics. You’ll typically find that larger sites are harder to convert than smaller, more niche sites. In fact, when launching the campaign, you might want to negative match on some of the bigger sites Exoclick serves ads to. You can talk to an Exoclick rep about getting that information.
