A leaked presentation from iStrategyLabs, a large advertising agency, shows off some of the new premium ad units that will become available to advertisers starting at the end of this month. Along with these changes, the old ad units will be heading out.
I think a lot of affiliates read this wrong, and took it as the self-service platform being thrown out, as well. Let me make this clear. Your self-service accounts will “probably” not be affected. The premium ad formats are for larger budget corporations and ad agencies spending thousands of dollars per day. Not for most affiliate marketers like you and me running off the self-service ad platform.
But for those of you that do have access to the premium ad formats, you should be happy to see some larger, more engaging ad formats coming your way.
While this doesn’t directly affect the ads most affiliates can make, it might affect CTR if these new ads are paired on the same page as the standard self-serve ads. We’ve already seen several changes such as more ads on pages, and ads on image pages in the past that have affected us all. It is a sign that Facebook is looking to get rid of affiliates, but how long until we all get a Google style ban-hammer coming our way, I’m not sure. Will it ever come, maybe not. I think if they wanted us gone, they would have done so a year or two ago when things were at their worst (rebills all over, booby ads up in your face, offending muffin tops and the gay community)
