Asking For Help

Posted on October 28th, 2009 By Under Justin Dupre

Constantly, on a day to day basis, I get asked for help. The way it is asked for is usually in one of the following forms:

  • Yo Justin! I saw you do a lot of stuff on (traffic source). I’m trying to get started there now. Can you share some tips? Thx man peace -Bob
  • I’ve spent 12 dollars on this offer on (traffic source) and I still don’t have any conversions. What gives!?
  • Hey. Just wondering if we could chat. I do a lot of stuff online and want to make more money. Hoping you could help me. Thanks
  • How much do you charge for coaching? I want to hire you.

Alrighty. You’re probably wondering why I won’t reply to you. Here’s why: I don’t work with freeloaders. I won’t help people that aren’t willing to spend some time (and a reasonable amount of money) to get results. I don’t have much time to sit back and chat. And I’m no ho (I don’t sell my body, huns).

If you want an answer from me, let me know who you are. I honestly don’t give a rat’s ass if you read my blog and love it, but thanks for that comment anyways. Be direct. Be specific. If you want me to be able to answer any questions, you’ll need to give me details. I hate broad general questions with answers you can probably find on Wickedfire. In fact, run a search there before you come running to me.

Also, chances are if I don’t know you very well, I won’t be the most willing to help you out. If you have something you’d like to share with me, go for it. I like to build relationships with people that know what they are doing. If you have lots of experience in one area, and need a leg up in a newer area, then maybe we can trade intelligence. But like I said, I’m not open to much to random people just saying they know stuff. Trust is something I don’t do something fast anymore.

Those people that ask me questions like why they aren’t making money on $X – $XX spend a day, obviously don’t have the budgets to split test every possible variable. That is why you aren’t making money. If you don’t have the experience to set up a campaign and have decent ROI, you need to gain that experience and data yourself. Myself, and most others, are not going to hand out our knowledge free. We spent thousands to get it, and you should too if that is what you want.

So if you still feel like you have a decent reason to contact me, do so, but know the above reasons might be just some of the reasons I won’t reply.

Everything you've said certainly sounds reasonable.

However although you state "And I’m no ho", you don't address what you'd do if OFFERED such services by someone willing to engage the barter system. :-)

    … not that I'm offering…

I may live in Canada, where such m-m interaction is legal, but assume my constant projectile vomiting would make that kinda deal less than appealing to you (even if you WERE into that m-m stuff). ;-)

    Enjoyable post. as always.

    good post dude.

you have already given out free advice, free landing pages and the 700 facebook girlie pics (made $XXXX profit on just one ad with one of those in a couple days).

what the hell more do people want? reply to all of them with a referral link to some guru program and tell them thats where you got all the answers.

"How much do you charge for coaching? I want to hire you."

wouldn't that be reason to set up a page with a paypal buy now button?

if newbies want to ask you questions, you can schedule a block of time every day and get paid while you answer them?

    • Justin Dupre says:

It's a good idea Andrew. Maybe I'll have to program that in to my contact form. Each message sent costs $5, but doesn't guarantee a reply… OR You can pay $50 and get a guaranteed reply. Each message after that only costs $25. Buy 10 get one free!

Ohhh. Now there's a business plan in the works.

      ;)

So in other words, only people that are making money should ask you for help. I don't see the point of a contact form if that's the case. You're going to get noobs like me asking you retarded questions from time to time, I don't see why it's a big deal though. Why don't you take the retarded questions and make a blog post around them? I know most people read through blogs before they decided to make contact.

    • Justin Dupre says:

      @Jeff –

Retarded questions are best left to forums, where they've been answered 100s of times over and over again. I recommend Wickedfire.com. Seriously useful stuff… especially the NOOBIE section.

I'm not saying you have to be making money, but you shouldn't come to me asking "How do I make dah ineternet monies!?""!!!!!"!212321414!" Do your research first. If you have a Facebook question, Wickedfire has about 100+ pages on the subject (I've read through each post to get as much info as possible). If you have a PPV question, ask your account manager first.

Example – Question I've received and liked:

"I've got an LP that is converting okay, but I'd like to up the conversion rate a few more percent. I've gone through 5 other designs and this one has done the best. What would you recommend I change?"

Justin has a total valid point. As a post-noob not yet super aff and growing fast. The best advice I ever got was 1. Read all the info on your traffic source. Doing google? read all their docs and videos. 2. Go and read all the info out there and sort out the BS from the gems. 3. TEST, TEST, TEST, TEST… did I say TEST enough ? You dont have the capital, the tools or the abilty. Start small. Justin is RIGHT !!! The most important thing is the data. Whether prosper/202 or awstats & excel. Whatever. If you dont know what it is, where it is, how it is or how it got there. How can you improve.? Honestly of all the business's and I have been in a number of licensed and complex industries. Affilate marketing is the easiest as far as the numbers and tracking and finding something that is profitable fast. Think of what a tool n die manu. goes through ? AND everything has its headaches. Thats just ignorance of the system and outdated comparisons. Once you have experiance and knowledge and made those shortcuts our brains love to find when we do something enough. It gets easy. We have tools and data and abilties in this field other industries would die for AND you still have to pay your dues. Learn, test, repeat, share what works with those who also share what works and continue. Justin has given out more useful money making tools and tips than 80% of the blogs out there. He has a right to his attitude and well deserved. So, stop being beggars. Learn spend, some some money METHODICALLY and share the love with those who also share. Peace and Power
