I asked you to ask me some questions, and you did! So without writing up anymore, here’s what I’m going to answer you with starting with questions from my inbox.
“Just trying to get this damn daily spending limit increased… Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!”
I’m assuming you mean from Facebook. While I don’t actually talk to my manager on Facebook anymore, as honestly they’ve only caused me more problems than they’ve solved, you can still contact who I used to work with via email. advertising@facebook.com will probably answer most enquiries. Sarah at sarahs@facebook.com was the last FB rep I talked to. Trevor may also be able to help you out at twalsh@facebook.com. Last I checked, if you send in a form just signing off on your accounts with a copy of your ID, and go through an account check, you can get your spending limit increased to 30k. It may be more now, however.
“What percentage of your traffic is currently coming from Google? In your experience, what are the best content network ad companies besides Google?”
I’ve never ran a ton of traffic through Google, as the game is just so difficult to play with account slaps and a nit-picky ad review team. I’ve only played with the Google, Yahoo and MSN content networks. You can get some really cheap clicks on MSN that convert amazingly easy, however the volume is sad. Yahoo in some cases provides about 50-60% of the traffic that Google can, which is certainly still decent. Coupled with cheaper click costs compared to Google, you might want to try it out. Rather than content nets, you might want to try out media buys. It can provide massive traffic with click costs down to meer pennies, however, you may have to throw up a decent deposit of several thousand dollars first.
“Hi Justin! I really enjoyed reading your bio and you seem like the right guy to ask. I am trying to start up my own website in Bangkok and I was wondering which would be the best program to learn (on a Mac) and where and how much this would be?”
If you are looking to blog, use the same platform as me, Wordpress. It’s 100% free. However, if you are trying to build a website from the ground up, I’d suggest starting with Adobe Dreamweaver. I’m not going to condone going out to Pantip Plaza or MBK and just paying 100 Baht for a ripped DVD of Adobe CS, however, the actual program costs several hundred dollars. If you want to learn about coding a website with a text editor like Notepad++, check out w3schools.com.
Now for the blog comments -
Louie had a few questions:
Question 1: Why Thailand?
I was an exchange student here a few years ago. I basically got to pick 5 countries that I wanted to go to when I was applying for Rotary Youth Exchange. The organization then interviewed me and matched me up with the country they thought I would work best in. I came to Thailand, fell in love with it, and decided I’d be happier just living here.
Question 2: Is it Hot?
Ungodly hot all year ’round except for a few days in December and January. Right now its the rainy season, so it’s hot and muggy.
Question 3: Is Yahoo Better Than Google PPC?
It depends. You’ll turn a better ROI on Yahoo almost always, but you’ll get a lot more volume with Google. If you can profit more in a day with the traffic from Google rather than Yahoo, then Google is better. A higher ROI doesn’t neccessarily mean you’ll make more cash. It just means your investment will be smaller for each lead or sale you generate.
Shawn Smith asked:
“Are you in Bangkok? What do you think the rates are for an apt near Lumpini Park?
Planning to move to Bangkok for a few months this winter, but I need to find an apt. that will let me rent short-term. What are your thoughts?”
You can find just about any rate around there. On the main roads around there (Rama 3 and Rama 4 I believe) you’ll end up paying more for basic housing. A 1 room apartment may cost up to 20 – 30,000 baht. However, if you don’t mind sitting a little longer in a taxi and living with more Thais in the same complex than foreigners, you’ll end up saving a lot of money. I once rented a 1-room place in Bangkok for less than $100 a month. Granted it was shitty, I only ever used it on weekends and it served its purpose as a place to sleep.
Here is my favorite question so far from Den:
“Do you bang bar girls?”
I never have, and I never will. Honestly, I think most bar girls are ugly and obviously trashy. The only attractive “bar girls” I’ve seen are at the exclusive VIP clubs where old geezers will buy the girls a BMW just to take them out on dates. The girls there are expensive, the drinks are expensive, and the membership costs are sky high. I prefer my women free and without AIDS, thank you very much!
That seems to be the extent of the questions I’ve recieved. If you wanted something answered and I didn’t get to it, let me know and I will try to help you out!
