An Example of a Profitable Campaign I Had From Day 1…

Posted on March 1st, 2010 By Under Affiliate Marketing

Isn’t something you’ll be getting from this blog post. Your day one profiting affiliate campaigns, well, they don’t come along so often. When they do, I bet it’s because of sheer luck or someone just handed it down to you. I’ve had these… a few of them actually. And I took them all from someone else or I just got lucky “throwing shit at the wall.”

But you want to know what sucks the most? Besides losing thousands just throwing shit at the wall (I call it throwing shit at the wall, missing, hitting the fan and just making a big mess. I know a few of my consulting clients heard me say that one already), I ran them thinking they would convert forever and ever. Obviously that never happened, and I never seemed to learn my lesson from running affiliate offers like that.

I ran the offer and never knew why it was profiting. I just knew it was profiting and left it like that. Never did any split testing, never rotated through networks, offers or LPs, and just thought I was sitting under a money tree. Well, the money tree shriveled up and died, and because I never knew why I was profiting before I could never replicate the results I was creating before.

Find the common denominators in your campaign. Was it the way you wrote your ad copy? Was it the way you were targeting? Was it the offer or landing page you were using? ALWAYS be split testing so you can actually find out yourself. Rotate absolutely everything you can, dump some money into data-gathering campaigns, and see what converts on your targets and why.

Since I’ve started looking at things this way, I’ve quadrupled my profit, and I’m able to make more campaigns faster, get them profitable faster, and understand 100% why I made them profitable. I know the number one factor on all my campaigns, to why I am actually at a positive ROI.

So let me get this straight, testing is GOOD?

Sometimes I wonder if the entire affiliate marketing scene isn't just trolls trolling trolls trolling trolls trolling newbies.

    • Justin Dupre says:

I think you really put the "nail in the coffin" as far as the trolling issue is concerned.

      Go back to making money.

fantastic post chap…did all your profitable campaigns dry out? GL selling $5 shit to newbs.

    • Justin Dupre says:

      No.

You just can't expect it to always be profitable though. Stop looking for that 1 hit wonder and start managing and understanding what you are doing.

I live by the common acronym "WWJD"… Some Christians take this as a call for the moral path, the high road if you will.

But me, when I ask myself "What Would JUSTIN Do?" the answer will always be pick up some shit and hurl it, see where it lands and hope it didn't land on my tracking server so I can analyze my pooh chucking statistics. Then rinse & repeat. IE: throw it with my left hand, underhand or the "no look" like Koby Bryant.

    WWJD… "be the Justin"…

I don't see no example campaign here.

good post..one thing, you can say visit my sponsor and put adsense below it..it is against their TOS.

    • Justin Dupre says:

Go back and read the terms..

You can't instruct people to Click your ads (for your personal benefit and not the advertisers), but letting people know that this website is my sponsor, they might have something you are interested in, etc… that is not against any rules.

Good ad title example to pull in traffic from affbuzz, nicely done:)

I vote your blog for "most annoying pop up" award at ASW 2011.

I think Zac Johnson has a more profitable campaign than you.

    • Justin Dupre says:

Is it popping up for you more than once every 2 weeks I think I set it at.

Stop wiping your cookies, it won't happen.

Jesus, this same dude posting comments under multiple names has way too much time on his hands.

Bro, Justin was explaining that testing is good and gave a real world example (albeit general), yeah he didn't go into specifics, but WTF? you want handouts? I've been this industry since 2002, you don't get campaigns handed to you – do some god damn homework yourself. People like you jack LP's and offers, lazy bastard. Put yourself now but 20 years in the past, without the affiliate industry, you'd be doing what? Scamming people on 900 numbers and filing for unemployment to make just enough money to afford your shitty apartment and pay the loan on your 10 year old BMW.

Leave this dude alone. He's got great advice, takes the damn time to share his experience without whoring out, and hasn't yet told you to fuck off, but I will.

Thank you, i will do this in future.
