I constantly hear people bitch and complain about how they can’t get such and such offer to convert. They’ve tried this and that and no matter what they do, it never works. Come on guys, maybe its just a shitty offer, but more than likely you just aren’t trying hard enough, split testing different methods and traffic sources, or spending enough money. It isn’t hard to do, and like Nickycakes put it, “affiliate marketing is easy“.
The whole process of building a campaign is down to your personal effort and the amount of work you are willing to put in to it to make it profitable. You can spend 3-4 hours a day working on getting 1 campaign a week profitable, or 1 – 2 days working 12+ hours getting an affiliate offer to put more money in your pocket.
In almost most no other career can you depend on your money coming from the amount of effort you put in. Split test tens or hundreds of combinations of traffic sources, landing pages, ad copy, images, and offers to find which one is the most profitable. It takes a lot of time to become an affiliate your managers love, or you can struggle for mediocrity, hoping that one lucky combination of the above will stay profitable more than a few weeks without need to change anything up.
Fact is, I used to do that. For a few months, I rode off my success with Facebook ads. I got lazy, going from making $1000+ a day for a month, then$500 a day for a couple weeks, still content, then to $0 when the offer died and traffic to the ads trickled. I wasn’t interested in split testing new landing pages or other offers. I didn’t even take it to other traffic sources that I knew would work. I enjoyed what I had, what was coming in, but was completely out of the loop when that all stopped. I literally had to relearn the whole system because I wasn’t keeping up with the latest tactics. People I knew, that were struggling when I was doing xxxx dollars a day, were now doing 5+ figures a day in pure profit.
Constant work, keeping yourself up to date on new traffic sources and lead/sales generation strategies, and a positive outlook are the most important things you’ll need to be and stay successful in the industry. The guy making $30 a day working his ass off and doing constant research will most likely be the guy banking off your one-hit success campaign someday. Unless you’ve got the work ethic to stay ahead, you’ll only get knocked down.

I'm kinda in the situation you mentioned in the 2nd to last paragraph. I have one campaign that I've banked real hard off of, though mine is still banking. But who knows for how long?
How did you develop a work-ethic? I know that's the only thing between myself and $xx,xxx+ / day.
This is true and it's one of the hardest things to do; to keep working as hard as before even after you see some success. I've found that it's hard to keep motivated to work hard when you're already making "enough" so the key is to find something to motivate you. Me, I'm going to scale things up, possibly hire an employee etc which means a lot more responsibility = more motivation to not fail.
Very true post. I had a spell with affiliate marketing around 4 months ago when my offer wasn't converting very well. In hindsight I can see a direct correlation between the amount of time I put in with the little amount of money I was making. If you want to make anything, you have to be dedicated and willing to put in a few long hours to perfect your campaign.
thats right on target for me right now bro. Except its not so much Work/Play as Work/"Put time, effort and emotional energy into a failing relationship". Well, thats over now for good (ex moving interstate) and I've glued the learner's hat back to my head so I'm dont end up smacked down by that dried up traffic source which is always a matter of when, not if.
The one characteristic successful AMers have – gotta be able to keep on getting back up, swallowing your pride and keeping on keeping on. If you cant deal with failure and having to constantly relearn, retest and keep apace of whats happening in the industry you're gonna go down.
@Micro – Women are good for one thing… cleaning. If you don't mind the mess, don't bother with them. Make some monies and then the women come to you and your ballin' aura… if they don't clean kick them out.
Oh damn… I'm going to hell for that one…
lol think we're on the same wavelength right now.. although I prefer the term "polishing" (yeah, I know..)
A good friend of mine, who's been witness to my recent merry-go-round experience keeps telling me what his daddy told him – "you may lose the moneys chasing the women, but you'll never lose the women while chasing the moneys". Or something to that effect.
Tru dat – I've been sitting on my ass for the last 2 months bemoaning how my google accounts got shut off and my top organic offer went belly up as well. I know how to get back in but don't think that would be a good idea so I just did nothing. Have some client work which usually sucks but pays the bills so I just floated out there in space for awhile. Time to get back to work. Thanks for the post.
very intelligent post bro.
I enjoyed this post, but sorry I don't agree with the "women are good for only cleaning" part.
Heh, I loved that paragraph you quoted and it's even better that you added your truthful insight. What he later said in the paragraph is also worth mentioning:
"The only real skill involved in making decent money is knowing how much mountain dew will be required to keep your eyes open long enough to build a winning ad campaign."
Very funny and very true.
Was doing pretty decent a year or so ago but then started dating and it got kind of serious. She put me on a rollercoaster ride and my business tanked in the process. Now that I am single again it all comes roaring back. Unless shes the one forget it…HUGE distraction
AMEN! Women are a distraction. I was pretty good at first in putting the work in, then a on/off relationship distracted me the past few months. The distraction is now gone and back to work I go!
ah hem
I guess the gals would say– "Guys are only good for taking out the trash (and bringing hoem the bacon."
take it higher– ain't nobody gonna remember you when you're old, and listen to your war stories, if not dumb wifey or the kids.– unless pa is such a meaningless space…
Take it higher– don't use, the users won't come. (i all meanings of the verbs..)
