Justin, I have a Kasikorn bank account and I can easily transfer money from PayPal to Kasikorn. It takes one week. Of course I always use ATM of an American Bank to access my American Bank

2 online newsletter I find helpful-- to expand the contact base you have in another country (and give a few names of lawyers, bankers and such who have something of a name to uphold)-- escapeamericadot com and internationallivingdotcom. THe classifieds are sometimes worth it, and the country guides. Ignore the financial comeons. THese people run a ton of letters (Stansberry research is one of their masks), for the older expat market. Escape America is a younger crowd. The thinking pieces are interesting for the pulse and the trends.
From IL I once got a very good link to a huge Brit bank (English speaking)and their Austrian branch. Austria has some of the toughest secrecy laws-- not for crime, just to secure malicious stuff.
I take it as the oral culture of offshore life and what helps me get other opinions into my thinking. It's targetted toward the 6 figure, not overly bright probably corporate veteran and dreamer.
Forinstance-- long before the terrorism scares I had figured out, without paying money out in books or lawyers, that the best way to avoid taxes was/is to take ones profits, no matter how small, offshore after paying the tax on it and go into business locally. As an American, you are still assessed taxes on what you make anywhere in the world, but your foreign corp isn't. like that.
They run a good travel writing thing, so ou get some good writers and interesting folks in the community. Easy to roll with that and find a few folks.

Interesting post. I've often considered the pros and cons of living somewhere exotic while working on the internet. Sounds like life is an adventure for you!

My GF and me are on vacation in Thailand. Staying in Samui atm, but we'll soon be heading over to Koh Phangan and Koh Tao. In approx. 2 weeks we'll arrive in Bangkok. Let me know if you want to meet for a Singha :-)

I hear ya. How about the positives?

1) Cheap. I mean it's RIDICULOUSLY cheap to live there. And I stayed in Bangkok which is already considered expensive by Thai standards. You can even stay in other places like "Sin City" Pattaya, or Chiang Mai etc, that are cheaper still. You can literally live like a rock star with just 100 bucks a day ... all in. And most full-time affiliate marketers earn much more than that.

2) Great food.

3) Awesome places to visit. I only scratched the surface of Thailand. There are tons of islands with idyllic beaches, cities to check out, etc.

4) Friendly people. Thailand ain't called the Land Of Smiles for nothing.

5) Hot chicks.

I'm still undecided as to whether I should go back there for a few months, or try Vietnam this time round. Or maybe Bali.

Ricardo, it's pretty obvious you've never tried to run an online business out of Thailand.
