I’ve got another super simple campaign lined up for you today, but for those of you not familiar with mobile, it should be a treat for you. Now the thing to keep in mind is that it is very simple to optimize once you have things set up and spending a little money, however, you will need to track everything, and I mean EVERYTHING to to be able to break a profit. Get Prosper202 set up on the VPS of your choice (I prefer Wiredtree). It’s fast, free and easy to set up.
Probably the least effort I’ve ever seen an advertiser put into an affiliate offer page. It’s bloody dreadful, no presell, but that’s a lot of mobile offer pages for you. These pages have to be compatible for hundreds of different handsets, so you can’t add too many fancy bells and whistles. Unless you have amazing ads and targeting, you’re going to want to use a landing page.
FlirtyMob can be found on OfferMobi. It is available in versions for the United Kingdom, Germany, Australia, Ireland, South Africa, Sweden and the Netherlands .
I have not come across any tools that give you good inside data on mobile traffic. If anyone knows any, let me know!
But, we are just running a dating campaign. You can include a majority of straight men in this mix, and some women may be keen to convert if you want to try that angle. You’ll have an easier time hooking men into converting, however. With this offer, we need to make sure we aren’t targeting adult traffic, which most mobile networks give you the option of opting out of.
What has worked on other traffic sources will generally pass on pretty well to mobile traffic. You can go ahead and write text ads if you don’t have designing skills, but it is best to put together some simple banner ads. You’ll normally only have to make 1 ad, 300 x 50 pixels, and the ad networks will resize that to fit other ad positions.
Now, what should your ad say and look like? Assuming we’re writing for men, you don’t have to be too complex here. Chat with local girls, flirt now, meet up tonight, chat 1-on-1 are all great terms you can use. You can even fit them on 1 banner with some animation. The thing about mobile banners is that you will need to try a lot of different things to get the highest CTR possible (for all you FB and PoF advertisers, this is all familiar territory). The higher your CTR, the lower you’ll be able to drop your CPC. If it’s high enough, you’ll be best off running CPM ads.
As far as a landing page goes, I would use it to collect an email address at the very least, as well as presell the offer a bit more. It isn’t always necessary with every offer you run, but if you are in it for the long run, this is the way to go. All content on mobile landing pages should be centered and in a fluid width so it can expand and contract based on different browser types and screen sizes. If you need a sample mobile dating landing page, I’ve got one for you right over here!
Again, how do you presell a dating offer? You promise dumb guys that they’ll meet hot girls. 80% of the time, men don’t actually read into what a page says… they just click the two, big round things. Split test the women on your ads and landing pages and watch how much it effects your CTR and CVRs.
There are a lot of places to buy mobile traffic. One of my favorites is Jumptap. What makes jumptap great is the tracking variables it can pass through the URL. This is why tracking is essential. In your Prosper202 variables you can set C1 as the handset that the ad got clicked from, c2 as the site or keyword they clicked from, c3 as the carrier, so on and so forth. You’ll find that you may have to spend a little money to figure this all out, but once you do, you just pause traffic to the phones the traffic isn’t converting on, or the carrier with 100 clicks and 0 conversions, or stop running traffic to certain categories of traffic, and then you’ll start profiting. Much of mobile affiliate marketing, especially in the dating niche, is finding out what dating offers work best with whichever handsets, then rolling from there.
A little insider tip – most iPhone and Android traffic has sucked for me. Not all of it, but it’s usually always at the bottom and paused right off the bat. My best converters are the old, shatty Nokias, Samsungs and whatnots. Less educated, less money for a nice phone = better conversions.
Remember to start broad, track all the variables, and target down once you know what is working. Mobile traffic is cheap, so this is a great spot to experiment in collecting emails for a list if you haven’t done any of that yet. Avoid pricier phones.

Awesome post, Thanks Justin.
Is there guide on setting up a mobile landing page? I downloaded the one you offered, but I am not sure how to get it setup on my end. Can you just paste the files from yours into like coffecup or kompozer? Any settings to make sure it shows up properly? Lastly, you said to collect emails, but the lp you have just has a signup icon to click. How do you get email form on this?
Google and Youtube will have 1,000,000 results for you.
Hey Justin,
I'm having problems with my landing page tracking not working on some blackberry phones because they don't support javascript. This means they aren't showing up in prosper at all. Have you found a way around this?
cheers.
These case studies are solid. Thanks Justin.
